In fact, data collected at the University of Chicago on the habits of 10,000 adults revealed just the opposite: Women who have the most sex tend to be 18 to 34-year-olds who are married with children, have at least some college education and work a harrowing 60 or more hours a week.

They are also likely to hold liberal political views, to not have a graduate or professional degree (in fact, people with the highest level of education tend to have less sex), to be socially active, to not be especially religious and to love jazz. Like wealth, sex is not equally distributed among the population either: Just 15 percent of adults account for half of all sexual activity, and 42 percent have 85 percent of all sex. Only 5 percent of Americans have sex three or more times a week. Adults ages 18 to 34 average close to two sexual encounters a week; 35- to 40-year-olds log in at slightly more than once a week; and a whopping one in five adults say they haven’t had sex at all during the previous year. Of course, more sex doesn’t necessarily mean better sex, though people who make love frequently just might be in a better mood than the rest of us. The researchers found that the more often a person has sex, the more likely they are to describe their life and marriage as happy.
